Streetlamps

I waited for you,
In the inky darkness of my mind,
But you never showed.

All the lights went off at once,
And the rain gave birth to thunder;
I knew what I was in for,
I just didn't understand it.
The space you filled became vacant,
I lost more hope than I had gained,
In the space of an hour.

Change is inevitable,
I would have changed,
If you had only bothered to ask.
You found another in the clueless stumble,
And cling on in case of the next blackout.

So forgive me darling,
When the next man comes,
And I accept his candles,
Because when you left,
You blew out all the streetlamps.
...
EDIT: One of my older works, what once was a block of text has been 'cleverly' (or not so as it may be) broken into a few stanzas. I must say I'm happier with the re-work...

I really like this, tender yet painful. I think you should divide it into stanzas though, blocks like this always feel too rigid. Other then that you should be proud, you write beyond your years, I admire that.
